Frost over black, and the black wins

Ghost Wax Black is a vegetable-tanned Walpier hide finished with a pale wax over a deep black base. Out of the box the contrast is the whole point: a chalky, clouded surface sitting on something very dark, so the cover reads grey until you look closely.

Use takes the frost off. The spine goes first, then the corners, then the flat of the front, and what appears underneath is not another colour but a smoother, more polished black. A worn one has depth where it has been handled and haze where it has not, and the two states sit side by side on the same panel.

Scratches in the wax are expected, and some covers leave the workshop with a few. They are in the wax layer, not in the leather. Rub one with your thumb and it disappears into the surrounding surface — and the layer they sit in is temporary regardless.

Of the black covers we make, this is the one that changes most. If you want black that stays flat and even, Buttero in black is the steadier choice.

The standard cover uses a modular elastic system and can carry two or three thin notebooks, depending on their thickness. If you need another layout, we can add extra holes and extra elastics before cutting.

The SLOWLINES logo is stamped in the finish you choose for your text: gold foil with gold, silver with silver, blind debossing with no foil on either. We do not mix the two.
