Black Buttero Leather Cover

Black that wears into two blacks

Buttero comes from Conceria Walpier: vegetable-tanned, smooth, firm, with a close and even grain. On a black hide the ageing does not show as colour, it shows as light. The spine, the corners and the spot under your thumb come up glossy within a few months while the flat of the cover stays matte, and held at an angle a used one reads as two different blacks at once.

The hide is dense enough to hold a shape. The cover stands on a desk instead of slumping, and the crease stays where it was folded rather than drifting across the front.

Nothing lifts, blooms or changes colour here — the surface simply deepens where it has been handled, and it takes about a year to see it properly. It is the most formal object in the range, and the one that looks least like a craft product.

The standard cover uses a modular elastic system and can carry two or three thin notebooks, depending on their thickness. If you need another layout, we can add extra holes and extra elastics before cutting.

The SLOWLINES logo is stamped in the finish you choose for your text: gold foil with gold, silver with silver, blind debossing with no foil on either. We do not mix the two.
